This is a fabulous handicraft bamboo basket made by a professional craftman of Ikkanbari(it was a way of making a bamboo basket brought from China by a preist "Hirai Ikkan" in Edo period) which is one of way to make a basket by a bamboo and a Washi(Japanese paper) with juice of an astringent persimmon painted. This way would be appreciated for a long time due to the reason that it works as a protection water and a proof against insects and lasts longer. Regarding this item, an old textile of the Samurai Nobori (a flag for boy's festival) is cut out and used to outside, and a Komonnjo (an old document) is covered on inside in stead of a Washi. The flag is dyed by vegetation called Ksaki-zome, which is natural way of painting a textile. In short, it is made all by natural stuff. It takes some time to make this basket becasue of the said reasons and never be made the same design again. This is a brandnew item and an astringent persimmon coated on the surface smells for a while but it will disappear naturally after use. It creates more tasteful color in terms of a Kusaki-zome item as it is used. Please have this cool item as one of your favorite items.
